Cape Wools SA is offering bursaries to students pursuing studies in Textile or Fashion Design, specifically within the wool industry, with a focus on the wool or sheep sector. This bursary aims to support academic excellence and promote skills development within the wool industry.

Bursary Details
  • Fields of Study: Textile or Fashion Design, with a focus on wool or wool-related applications.
  • Eligible Students: Grootfontein Agricultural College students or other tertiary institution students specializing in wool-related studies.
  • Coverage:
  • May include registration feestuition feesaccommodationprescribed books, and other study-related materials.
  • For Grootfontein Agricultural College students, it may cover practical on-farm training costs up to R20 000 (payable to the farmer if required).

  • Bursary Award Basis: Awards are based on academic merit and are reviewed every six months.
  • Vacation Work: Students are required to complete up to 4 weeks of vacation work annually on an active wool farm.
  • Post-Graduation: Graduates must work in the wool or related industry for one year for each year of bursary funding received.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
  • Field of Study: Must be studying or intending to study towards a Textile or Fashion Design qualification focused on wool.
  • Academic Requirements:
  • Final year collection must contain garments with at least 50% wool.
  • Masters students must focus on wool and its applications.
  • Preference:
  • Students in their 3rd year or higher (Honours, Masters, PhD) specializing in wool or sheep studies.
  • Previously disadvantaged students.
  • Students attending Agricultural Colleges or tertiary institutions offering fashion and textile design.
  • Grootfontein Agricultural College Students:
  • Must specialize in wool (Merino production unit) in their 3rd year.
  • Must maintain a satisfactory academic record.
